About

My name is David Coulbeck. I am a grandparent of two pupils at a primary school in the UK that was targetted for closure. I am currently the Chair of a small action group that fought the closure since October 2008. In January 2010, we learnt that the Schools Adjudicator had rejected our council’s proposal to close our school.

We set up a website to help inform all parents and any other interested parties of progress in our fight. If you want to see what happened, please click the link below:

Save Gillas Lane School

We were successful in our fight having gone through The Schools Adjudicator process and persuaded them of our case to keep the school open. Gillas Lane Primary school continues to this day providing good quality education for its children.

This site has been set up to give other parents groups the benefit of our experiences – what works and what doesn’t work – so that other good schools are not discontinued needlessly.

This site is another fantastic effort by David Coulbeck and should be of great use to anyone facing the school closure issue we did at Houghton’s Gillas Lane School.
If you are lucky enough to have a champion to lead your campaign as good as David Coulbeck and use the huge range of information available on this site you will win!
